Swedish tennis star Jan Apell announced earlier this week that he will participate in Gothenburg Racketlon World Open. Apell is best known for his 1994 doubles victory together with Jonas Björkman in the Masters Final, regarded as the Tennis World Championships. He was also part of the Swedish team that won Davis Cup the same year. Another item on his impressive list of achievements is no less than 9 doubles ATP tournament victories.

Unlike tennis colleague Magnus "Gusten" Gustavsson (who is going to take part in Class 1) Apell has decided to challenge the international racketlon elite. He will enter the tournament as "Surprise Star 1" in the draw and will start his racketlon career with a showdown against tennis(!) specialist Stefan Adamsson - number 12 on the Swedish racketlon ranking. Although it will be Apell's very first racketlon match he is not known as someone that gives up easily... Alelyckan Sport Center, 18.45, Friday night. Not to be missed.

A few more vital facts about Apell:

weight: 75kg
height: 183cm
Left Handed
