Stefan Adamsson Moves Forward

Stefan Adamsson, the youngest of Sweden's established racketlon players (still in his early twenties which is unusual among the best racketlon players), performed a distinct breakthrough when the yearly Olligång Racketlon tournament took place in Stockholm earlier this weekend.

This year the tournament attracted a high quality field of entrants including 5 of the top 10 Swedish racketlon players. Seemingly unimpressed by this heavy competition Adamsson managed to reach the final where he even threatened Magnus Eliasson, the dominant of Swedish racketlon during the last 2 years. The match was not decided until well into the tennis set; Eliasson needed 10 points to win the match and only got it at 10-14 implying a final margin of only +8 points.

Adamsson's achievement meant a leap on the Swedish ranking list (new version out today!) from #7 to #4 and improved chances for a break-in among the World Top 10 later this year. And, although it was not quite enough, it got very close to take him straight into the team that will represent Sweden in Gothenburg Racketlon World Open, that this year, for the first time in the history of Racketlon, features a team tournament for national teams. The captain of the Swedish team, Magnus Eliasson, has made it very clear that the Swedish Ranking list will be uncompromisingly used to decide which three men that will enter the team thereby accompanying the undisputable #1 Swedish lady Lilian Druve.

(The Swedish team will most probably need all the racketlon skill the country has available since there are clear indications from across the Baltic Sea that the Finns are not going to give away the first ever World Open Team title without a proper fight. Finnish captain Toni Kemppinen is currently getting his team ready. None of these two teams representing the two dominant racketlon powers of the World today expect any serious competition form the other four European teams that have entered the tournament. Perhaps, especially not from France... Read more about the team event of World Open under EVENTS on the racketlon.com startpage.)
