With almost a month left until entry deadline
(23 May) it is already clear that the D'Hondt Open in Belgium
will attract a field of participants of a quality that is
difficult to match even for World Championships.
Featuring players from e.g. the entirely new countries of Holland
and New Zeeland the entry list now contains no less than 80(!)
names. Among them 6 out of the present Men's World Top 10 and 5
out of the ladies' Top 10. And the real marketing of the event
only just started as given by the latest news release (dated 27
April):
"Today, the poster campaign of the D'Hondt Open has started.
More than 1000 full coloured posters and 2000 leaflets are sent
to all Flemish clubs of reasonable size in each of the four
racket-sports. In addition, all previous participants of the
former 'King of Rackets' tournament (around 400 players) should
receive an invitation. We hope that many of them come back and
play the first D'Hondt Open Racketlon."
See the Breaking News section of the tournament homepage ( www.dhondtopenracketlon.be ): for continuous daily reports on developments.
(Recommended!)
Meanwhile, the Finnish Open, the most established racketlon
tournament of them all, with origins tracing back to 1986 and the
birth of Racketlon, and usually one of the biggest and best is
boosting a similar entry list on their homepage ( www.kortteliliiga.net/mlit1.htm ). Application deadline for Finnish Open: 11 May. This
is where to go to see Finnish world class players like Mikko
Kärkkäinen and Toni Kemppinen clash with the rest of the
international racketlon community. It is a rare thing!
