Below is the Gothenburg ranking list as of 2002-01-14 (the numbers are ranking points). Eleven people (bold in the list) have applied for the January TOP 8 event. The top 4 of these have been seeded. The positions of number 5-8 have been decided by the drawing of lots. Number 9-11 are not directly qualified for the main event but has the opportunity to qualify through challenges. The lot has decided whom (amongst number 5-8) that they are allowed to challenge. See the draw.

Jan Apell had to default due to illness. Lucky looser, Magnus Gustafsson, replaced him in the main tournament.
