Following a breakthrough year for racketlon, when the Swedish racketlon elite for the first time in history faced the Finnish, Racketlon.com now publishes the first Racketlon World Ranking listing the 10 best racket players known to the world today. Mikko Kärkkäinen from Finland tops it followed by Sweden's Magnus Eliasson.

Racketlon has been an established sport in both Finland and Sweden since the late Eighties, but not before Gothenburg Racketlon World Open in November 2001 did these communities face eachother, an event that caused astonishment among all(!) Swedish racketlon players as two Finns came out on top. A second international tournament took place in Finland last May and in a few weeks' time the first ever tournament outside Scandinavia, Scottish Open, is due. So, the timing is right for a first official World Ranking in a sport that has started to raise attention all around the world (see this media overview) and that has now started to spread from its stable foundations in Scandinavia.

Sofar, there are only Finnish (4) and Swedish (6) players on this TOP 10 list. But this might well change at the second Racketlon World Open to be held in Gothenburg later this year (see the invitation under EVENTS on the Racketlon.com startpage). Although last year's World Open did attract players from six countries there were no entries in the Men's Elite class from outside Finland and Sweden. This year, however, there are already Elite entries from England and Germany. Perhaps the prize money (see the internet auction that goes on on top of the startpage) might attract some further challengers from unexpected places!

A female world ranking is due to show up shortly.
