This section contains a complete chronological list of all international
Racketlon events that took place from that first one in Gothenburg
2001 through the full year of 2008. Included in the list are also
a number of national tournaments that were either of a "Racketlon
breakthrough" nature or for which there were no other appropriate
local web site on which to advertise (e.g. all events on the Swedish
Racketlon Tour).
For FIR sanctioned events in 2009 and later, see the present
FIR homepage; Racketlon.net
or - for results and registration - see www.resultreporter.com

 |
The only Tour Event outside Europe and the
fourth Canadian Open (see reports - 2004,
2005, 2006,
2007 - from last years'
events). This year's event promises to beat previous records
as regards size and prize money as Canadian Racketlon
gears up. (Of all countries outside Europe, Canada is
the one that has so-far indicated the biggest potential
for Racketlon - as shown by interest emerging from several
regions within the country. Which led to the establishment
of a domestic Canadian
Tour in August 2006.) |

(see reports: 2005, 2006,
2007), a sport center that
proved very popular with the players - for good reasons;
3 tt, 3 ba, 2sq, 4 te + swimmingpool, sauna and a 4 star
hotel at an affordable price. |
 |
Take care to notice that the event takes
place in Prague - one of Europe's most beautiful cities. |

A second World Ranking event in England!
- reminiscent of old times; Back in 2003 and 2004 at the
very beginning of the history of International Racketlon
the English had two tournaments on the World Tour; The
English Open in the autumn (still going very strong gaining
momentum annually since 2002) and the British Open in
April (see reports from these classic Stuart Foster events
in Watford; 2003
and 2004).
The name "British Open" has not been used since
then but is now re-awakened by this tournament in Ipswich,
the first British Challenger event. |
 |
For more info, see the tournament
homepage. A visit to the homepage of English Racketlon
- www.racketlon.co.uk
- should also be rewarding. |

After three World Championships in Gothenburg
(2001-2003) and another two in Vienna (2004-2005) this
was the tournament that hosted the 2006 Racketlon World
Championships immediately recognized as "The Greatest
Ever Racketlon Festival" (see report). |
 |
This tournament has its origins in the traditional
Belgian "King of Rackets" tournament, that in
2004 adopted the Racketlon format and joined the World
Tour, thereby opening up the door between one of Europe's
oldest multi racket communities and the international
Racketlon community. This attracted a record 170 players
(see report), which was
followed by another record (over 260 players) event in
2005 (see report). Then the
World Championships broke all records. In 2007 (see report),
the tournament was awarded Super World Tour status and
the high ambition level was maintained. |

Details on how to enter etc. will appear

Last year the Finnish Open returned to the
Helsinki Metropolitan area, where it all began in 1986.
This is where Racketlon, as the International Racketlon
Federation now defines it, first emerged! |
 |
The venue, Esport Center (www.esportcenter.fi)
with 16 tennis, 23 badminton and 8 squash courts, is one
of the biggest indoor racket centres in Europe and (according
to tournament director Poku Salo) "probably the best
suited for Racketlon in the world". It is located
in Tapiola "Garden City" about 10 km from the
centre of Helsinki. It has been the venue for a number
of World and European Squash Championships and many other
national and international events in all the four sports. |

World Tour event. (Prestige Factor 1 in the World

 |
The seventh(!) Racketlon English Open and
therefore one of the oldest tournaments on the tour. |
 |
But the venue is relatively new! Last year
the English Open moved back to London - after last year's
visit to Birmingham (see report)
- to this sport
center in Redbridge. The English had long had their
eyes on this center, which turned out to be one of the
best for Racketlon on the tour. And it is near Stansted
airport and your Ryanair connection! |
 |
This year this tournament will include
the 2008 Doubles World Championships. As a warm-up for
next year's regular World Championships? (England have
flagged that a bid is on its way.) |
 |
More information is available through the
tournament
homepage. Also, the homepages of English Racketlon
(www.englisracketlon.org)
and British Racketlon (www.racketlon.co.uk)
are expected to provide relevant updates on the preparations
for this tournament. |

The only new country on the
Tour! After last year's inaugural event - the first in
Switzerland and a major breakthrough for Racketlon (see
report + newsitem
with video from Swiss television) - Swiss Open has
been awarded Tour status. As last year's event clearly
showed this is a country with big Racketlon potential.
And the venue (the VITIS
sport centre) is their biggest racket centre. Roger
Federer, Martina Hingis; Here comes Racketlon! |
 |
This is an accessible tournament. The sport
centre is situated next to a railway station only 15 minutes
from central Zürich and similarly close to the Zürich
airport. |

The seventh(!) Scottish Open and the oldest
of all non-Scandinavian tour events. Around it has emerged
one of the most successful Racketlon communities in the
world as clearly illustrated by names like Sarah McFadyen,
Katy Buchanan (at this moment - Nov 2008! - previous world
no.1:s) and Calum Reid (world no.2 at present and still
young enough to be a man for the future). |
 |
In 2005 the event was moved from little
Monifieth on the Scottish countryside to the capital Edinburgh,
implying a much better marketing opportunity. In addition,
participants at last years' tournaments (see reports;
2005, 2006,
2007) could verify that
the new venue was one of the best on the tour. |
 |
If you have never been to Edinburgh this
is also an opportunity to discover one of Europe's most
interesting cities, culturally, historically and visually. |

The third annual Pacific Rim
Open. See report from the
inaugural event in 2006. Racketlon is gaining a firm
foothold on the Canadian west coast! |
 |
Victoria, the capital of British
Colombia (the westernmost of Canada's provinces), is a
city of 400 000 people located on beautiful Vancouver
island. |
 |
This is an event with huge potential
given the vicinity to two of the bigger cities in North
America;
Vancouver (3 million people) is 1.5 hours away by ferry
(20 minutes by plane-pop)
Seattle (5 million people) is 2 hours away by ferry (20
minutes by plane-pop)
Both Victoria itself and Vancouver have strong Asian badminton
and table tennis communities... |
 |
The venue - Cedar
Hill Recreation Centre - has 6 table tennis, 3 badminton,
4 squash and 4 indoor tennis courts. Experienced tournament
director Dean Gillis is their racket sports coordinator. |

 |
A new tournament in Holland!
In the small town of Dronten in the very center of the
country. For Europeans a striking feature with Dronten
should be its youth. It was planned and built in the 1950:s
and 60:s and wasn't given its official name until 1972(!) |
 |
The name of the sport center
is Flevoparq. See www.flevoparq.nl
for their homepage. (4 squash courts + 4 indoor tennis
courts) |
 |
World ranking points gained
at this tournament will be included in the rankings used

The prestigious peak of the
Racketlon World Tour. (Prestige
Factor 2 in the World Ranking System.) |
 |
The eighth annual Racketlon
World Championships this is destined to become a major
breakthrough for Racketlon in Germany - a country that
has gained considerable Racketlon momentum over recent
years - but there should still be huge unrealized potential.
|
 |
This tournament, in the city
of Fürth in Bavaria in the welcoming southern part
of Germany, was first run in 2006 and was awarded world
ranking status in 2007. |
 |
Easy to get to! The venue is
just 6 km from Nürnberg Airport, the main destination
of the low cost airline "Air Berlin" (see airberlin.com)
with direct connections to other airports all over Europe,
such as Glasgow, London, Vienna and Budapest. |
 |
The sport center (see www.sportpark-online.de)
is described as "fantastic" for Racketlon with
8 indoor and 9 outdoor Tennis courts, 12 badminton courts
and 6 squash courts. |
